Rich Dad said “The Rich build network. Someone else looks for work”. I personally think that Business Network International (BNI) is one form of network for the rich or at least for those who have the potential to become RICH!
I thank to my mentor, Mr. Bellum Tan, who introduced me to BNI a few months ago. I did not know what BNI all about. I wrote an email to BNI global and they directed me Mr. Lok Samdy who already initiated to organize BNI Cambodia. I was one of the six people, founding members, of the first chapter of BNI in Cambodia.
During the first training for founding members on 26th April 2013 I was selected as the Networking Education Coordinator (NEC) for the chapter. Now we name our chapter as BNI CEO Chapter.
It is my honor to be the first NEC for the first BNI Chapter. I am serious about this new role because it is not just about fulfilling my role and let each week passes by. My main focus is adding values to our members within the chapter as well our visitors.
I have come across a website of another NEC of a BNI chapter where he wrote about the roles of Networking Coordinator as follow:
Networking Coordinator – The Teacher of The Chapter
The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The Great Teacher Inspires – I focus on the last part!
The NEC in a BNI chapter is very important person. At each meeting, the NEC has 3-5 minutes to present information that will not only provide education, but also will help chapter members develop their networking skills. The 3-5 minutes is the longest a person has to speak during the agenda, except for the 6-12 minute presentation (showcase).
As a NEC for the chapter I need to do my research and working hard to prepare my 3-6 minute presentation on the following subject:
- One to One meetings
- Anatomy of a 60-Second Introduction
- How to give Good Referrals
- Top ways to increase the number of referrals you give
- How to successful invite visitors
- Tools for networking
- How to be effective members in BNI
As the NEC of the chapter I have a role not to tell theoretical presentation to the members. I can give them the tips, best practices, tactic and strategies that they can immediately use to help each member to increase their return on investment (ROI) within chapter by following the philosophy of BNI “Givers Gain” and “Farming Not Hunting”
