Networking – The Power of Leverage
Networking is the process and cultivating and activating relationship in personal or business so you and the other people you are networking get the mutual benefits from that relationship. If not, so then you are not networking you are net-wasting.
In our recent workshop “Be Rich Workshop” by PM Leadership and Rich Dad Asia, Mr. Bellum Tan asked participants do a networking session with other participants in the room. Then he asked who met more than five people during the networking session, and more… Then he mentioned that networking is not about numbers of people you meet or your know. Networking is about who you know and how deep they know you, your personal life and business life. Only then you can benefit from your networking.
In this article I want to pick up and share with you a short facebook post by my mentor, Mr. Bellum Tan, CEO of Rich Dad Asia.
“If you want to be RICH , you must build networks and link your network with other networks. The reason is easy to become RICH through networks is because it is easy to be generous through networks. On the other side , people who act alone or as an individuals limit their chances for economics success. NETWORKS are people , business , or organizations that you are generous with because you support them and they support you.Networks are powerful forms of LEVERAGE. If you want to BE RICH , build a network and network with other NETWORKS. ” Bellum Tan – Rich Dad Asia
When I first met Mr. Bellum Tan in his workshop I realized that I needed to change many things in my life in order to grow myself and my business. It was a life change event that I met him and had two dinners with him where he personally gave some tips that totally opened my eyes.
One of the things I changed was the people I associated with. He said that I need to choose the six people that I associate with very carefully because they determine my future success. The new six people that I choose to be in my circle of association are successful business owners and successful investors who willing to teach me to do the same. And of course, I still a few of them are employees/self-employed because they are good at what they are doing and I need their consultation and advice.
He also advised me to contact BNI to start a chapter in Cambodia because he believes that BNI is a form of networking of business owners that help each other to grow businesses. That’s why I am now a member BNI and acting as Networking Education Coordinator for BNI CEO Chapter.
So in short, Networking is important if you understand its process of how to cultivating and activating your relationship for a mutual benefit. At BNI we say this “Networking is not net-eating or net-sitting. It is Net-Working”
