Who Is An Ideal Candidate For A Marketing Leadership Possession?
Those applicants who are considering a position in this field is preferred to have a good amount of experience in the following areas of marketing in order for the potential company to feel they would be an effective employee.
The above positions and responsibility depend not only on the level of education earned by the applicant, but experience in marketing management of some kind is vital for the employee to gain and maintain a lucrative position in this industry.
The following contents will expand upon much needed knowledge one must have to pursue and be effective in this type of marketing position. The information below should give you the idea of what is required and needed by marketing managers in any industry. Study these closely and determine if this type of career is right for you. And of course, as a startup business owner you need to be the Chief of Marketing Director.
1. Who Are The Customers?
Customers are the existing folks you do business with as well as anyone potential customer you are hoping to gain. I strongly believe that the first customer is myself. And the second are my team members. I must market my company vision, mission, values, and goals to my self and my team members before marketing the company
and the services to our customers. You supply customers with products and services that are desperately needed by them. As a marketing manager worth his weight will actively pursue new customers while continuing to keep the existing clients and customers please with their products or services. This is accomplished through face to face communication, surveys, email feedback, and face to face compliments or criticism. Make sure, as the marketing manager, or as one to whom authority has been delegated to, you keep in mind the fact that the customer is the most important aspect of your company or business. Gaining them and keeping them is the goal. Sam Walton, founder of Walt-Mart said that “There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else.” Yes, he is right!
2. Understanding the Marketplace and Customers Needs and Wants
It is important to understand customer needs, wants and demand in order to build a business that really provide values to the needs of the customers. And of course, it will build strong relationship between you and your customers.
You see, being in the marketplace is about bringing values to customers. In another word you need to study what their problems are so you can innovate and design unique solution to their problems.
4. Pricing and Product Distribution
Because I am an info-preneur (entrepreneur who promotes and sells information such as training, seminar, books etc.) I use this formula to set price for my services:
Practical Values + Intrinsic Values = Total Values
- Practical Values is the thing that your product or service does. If you drive a BMW 750 LI, for example, it can take you from point A to point B.
- Intrinsic Values is the unseen perceived value that is created largely by positioning and promotion. For in stance, Rolls Royce can also bring you from point A to point B. You ask why Rolls Royce cost me higher than MBW 750LI? And you know that Rolls Royce is owned by BMW. It is because Rolls Royce is well positioned and well promoted. And of course, it is aimed for people who are willing to pay their money for a higher lifestyle.
In Cambodia there are other trainers who charge a few hundred dollars for a day or a two-day training. I charge higher. And they’re some international trainers who charge their participants a few dollars for one or two day training while other change up to USD 30,000 or more.
5. Sales Promotion, Advertising, and Public Relations
All of these tie in together so tightly they are considered to be one and the same in the marketing aspect of business. You want to relate to the public on a creative and effective level, which in turn advertises products or services, and it also takes care of the vexing, costly aspects of advertising as well. Conduct research as to how these aspects can be used together to kill 3 birds with one stone, so to speak. You will be amazed at the effectiveness of the way they compliment each other.
You see, many people still confuse between Marketing and Sales. Marketing is making your customer want/need your service or product. Sales is exchanging your service/product for money with your customer. Therefore, in order to make more sales we need to do more marketing.
6. Online Marketing, Social Media, and the use of Email in Business Marketing
Doing business in these days if you are not using social media such as Facebook, youtube, Google+, Linkedin, Twitter etc. to promote your brand awareness, to engage with your current customers and prospects are you out of date. And soon will be out off the market.
I use social media to promote my business and my personal brand. If you type my name “Piseth Kham” on search engine such as Google you will see “Piseth Kham” appears on the first page. As I did not have much money to start my company I needed to do this by myself. You may not know my name “Piseth Kham” brings good money to my business by leveraging with social media and blogs. One of my customers has found my article on the Internet and, so far, he has brought us about USD 10,000.
Some companies who are very successful in the market have social media policy in place. They allow their staff to use working hours, 15 minutes per day for instance, to share and talk about their good experiences with the company. At PM Leadership we also have this in place.
